In Angles-sur-l'Anglin: the 11th century Chateau Guichard ruins.

Roc aux Sorciers: in 1950 a sculpted prehistoric frieze dating back from Magdalenian times was discovered. The original frieze is not accessible to the public for preservation reasons but the interpretative centre offers the chance to discover an innovative reconstruction of one the most important sites of Paleolithic art.

The ville basse circuit 1 and the ville haute circuit 2 are two signposted walking trails in the village, more longer circular walks start from the village passing through majestic scenery. Boating or canoeing on the river Anglin. Cycling along signposted cycle routes.

In front of the tourist information office you will find the Atelier Jours D'Angles - fine pulled thread embroidery that provided work for 300 women from the mid - 19th Century to the 1960s.

On Saint Jean's Day - June 24 - there is a bonfire and get together.

On July 14 there is always an Arts & Crafts market.

On the first Sunday in August there is a fireworks display.

Le Festival du Livre is an annual 3 day book fair around August 15.

Brocante - Vide Grenier (flea market) at the end of September.

Day trip ideas:

La Roche Posay, 11km away,  is not only an interesting medieval small town but also a famous spa town. 

The Abbey of Saint Savin sur Gartempe - a UNESCO heritage site - 15km. Chauvigny - 23km, Brenne Natural Park - 26km, Montmorillon - the book town - 34km.

Bigger interesting towns to visit are: Poitiers 48km, Loches 57km, Chinon 84km and Tours 103km. 


Arrival by car



From Châtellerault motorway A10, exit Châtellerault Nord, take direction Pleumartin (D14) and then Angles-sur-l'Angin. Entrance into the village via rue D'Enfer, left at the square -rue de Tournon - then right at the fork, and right again, left into the car park. 

Leave car park on foot by turning left and then right, house is the second on the left.


From Poitiers motorway A10, direction Chateauroux, take exit Chauvigny (151), direction La Roche Posay (D5) then Angles-sur-l'Anglin.

Enter village over the bridge, follow the road past the chateau, then right in the bend to the car park.

On foot from the car park: left then right into rue Queue du Renard, second house on the left.

Paris Montparnasse TGV to Châtellerault - 90 min. Then hire a car. I highly recommend ouicar.

Distance airport Poitiers - Angles-sur-l'Anglin is 43 km.

La Rochelle - Angles-sur-l'Anglin is 200km.

Bordeaux - Angles-sur-l'Anglin is 320km.

Restaurants in Angles: L'Amaretto grill for pizza and French/Italian cuisine for lunch or supper; No. 15 English tearoom for breakfast, brunch and lunch. At La Roche Posay: Le Marsala for pizza and French/Italian cuisine; Fine dining at La Calabash in Yzeures-sur-Creuse or at Restaurant Bernard Gautier in Leigné-les-Bois.

La Bellevue for basic food shopping; nearest small supermarket in Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé at 3km and big supermarket at 9.4km in Yzeures-sur-Creuse.

Food markets: one-man farmer's market Wednesday and Thursday morning. Otherwise at La Roche Posay on Tuesday and Friday morning; Le Blanc on Saturday.
